We just played three songs live and had a cool chat with the awesome hosts Brady and Dan from the CJSF Radio 90.1FM show “Coffee an’ a Smoke” at 6 in the morning!

We talked about our old band LyMe, our DIY “theatre” punk rock outfit with whom we recorded an album and toured Malaysia in the late 90s. Brady even played “Size does Matter” for us – haven’t heard that thru the airwaves in years!
Then we talked about the Malaysian underground music scene, which is close to our hearts and is the root of our new band Caracas, here in Vancouver, Canada.
Brady and Dan played some of our influences as well, like the Venezuelan dance funk group Los Amigos Invisibles (who were in Vancouver a few weeks ago and I totally missed them), Toronto’s dance punk duo Death From Above 1979, and the awesome local post-nothing punk duo Japandroids (please rock gods let us play a show with the Japandroids one day). Brady had a bunch of other CDs from some of our favorite bands, such as kickass local punk duo The Pack A.D. and Brazilian virtuoso Djavan, but we ran out of time to play them.
Other than a quick shout out to the local indie filmmakers scene (where Javier spends a lot of his time), we didn’t have much time to plug everyone I wanted to give a shout out to, like my buddy Aaron Saunders at www.fromthedeckchair.com (if you’re ever looking for an awesome cruise ship blog, look no further!) or the fine folks at 30:Live, the local live music management group that champions all ages rock shows in Vancouver and I totally support them – it’s how the Malaysian underground scene became so good!
